Osun 2022: INEC Warns Against Vote Buying, Selling

Professor AbdulGaniy Olayinka Raji, Osun state INEC Resident Electoral Commission (REC) condemned the act of buying and selling votes.

The National Electoral Commission (INEC) has indicated that voter education and election awareness are necessary for free, fair and credible elections.

The professor made the announcement at the Osogbo Voter Education Summit on Wednesday.

The head of Osun INEC said the commission has the power to arrest and prosecute anyone found at the polling station who is involved in buying and selling votes.

He pointed out that the commission, however, did not have the power to arrest anyone who did so outside the polling station, and asked politicians to come out and convince voters.

INEC Director of Voter and Public Education, Ayodele Victor Aluko in his speech said voter education and enlightenment are crucial to promoting and actively participating voters in the electoral process.

Represented by Mary Nkem, Deputy Director of Voter Education, she also revealed that the public has relied on the commission for information on the electoral process to help them not only participate, but also to ensure that they trust the commission to be ready and capable of conducting elections. free, fair, inclusive and acceptable choices.

According to him, “The Commission has made and continues to make several in-exhaustive efforts to enhance the electoral process.

“In view of the above, it is essential for the public to be enlightened regularly in order to ensure that they are properly aware of the efforts of the Commission and their roles and responsibilities in each of the steps being taken by the Commission.

“This will make them understand how these improvements can further strengthen the electoral process to become transparent.”
