Voters Registration Hits 8.8 million – lNEC

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) stated that the current voter registration exercise going on in the country has crossed over 8 million new registrants.

The electoral body stated the actual number to be 8,855,996 as of May 2.


The commission, in its weekly review issued in the fourth quarter, for the third week in Abuja on Thursday, said 5,415,619 had completed their registration.

It noted that 2,379,063 registered online, and 3,036,556 registered physically.

According to the review, those who completed the registration included 45,412 people with disabilities and 3,745,129 youth.

The report also revealed that at the time of review, INEC had received 15,789,718 applications for voter transfer, Permanent Voter Card change requests and voter record change.

The specific number of applicants were 8,330,813 for men, and 7,458,905 for women.
