An All Progressive Congress (APC) group, Abia Rejoice Movement (ARM), stated that the time for the state leadership to resist the imposition of political office holders by some party leaders in the state has come.
This comes on the backdrop of the upcoming primary election of the APC in Abia and across states of the Nigeria federation.
In a statement by Chima Obiwuru, of its Media Directorate, issued to newsmen in Umuahia, on Tuesday, the Abia group said the people must be allowed to choose their leaders and not allow only a group of persons to select for them.
The organization said, “the futile attempt by one of the Abia APC gubernatorial aspirants to be imposed as a consensus candidate of the party outrightly against popular demand and political reality has met a brick wall, because, the NWC of the party outrightly rejected this devilish proposal and has enjoyed all aspirants to prepare for a direct mode of primaries where all members of the party will elect the gubernatorial candidate in Abia.
It maintained that there must not be an imposition of governorship candidate on party members in the Abia chapter of the APC in the forthcoming primary election, warning anyone harbouring such thought to perish it but should come and test his or her popularity and acceptability.
“No shortcut to becoming Abia APC gubernatorial candidate”, the political group added.
The ARM urged all card-carrying members of the Abia chapter of the All Progressive Congress, delegates and teeming party members alike to come out en masse and vote in, for credible and visionary aspirants to emerge as standard-bearers of the APC in all levels of elective political offices of Abia State, to foster the needed change in all facets of the God’s own State.
